nine eleven
911
The events we all witnessed on 911
rocked, shocked, saddened and enraged.
It brought us together but in what ways?
Terror cloaked in the name of God,
dark skin, from the heat of the desert
the middle of the east.
Now words that flow can inflame or tame.
"Barbarians, Islam and them"
echoes like "blacks, Jews and gays."
We need speak the truth that hatred and hate is what destroys,
not names, religion or the collective tribe.
Ignore 'ance has never been bliss,
it causes one to lose touch with the collective soul.
The time to engage in the discourse is now.
Just as we've been brought together to stand in unity,
we need to continue together
against hatred and words that inflame,
to care what goes down, here, there and everywhere.
Let's take this lesson in hatred to engage beyond self-interest
and forget not to include all tribes.
It's not "us versus them"
when we all share a common humanity.
Lesson
While each blade and leaf is unique,
in unity they stand as pasture and tree.
Beware of hatred borne in isolation and ignorance
as we would stand guard against a virus.
Each of us unique
yet bound by a common thread.
Celebrate diversity
and remember our unity.
Nurturing life, whether nature or humanity,
brings growth, abundace and love.
Inclusion, compassion, education and understanding
is a lesson to be learned.
